Good
  • Compact, sturdy design
  • Colourful casing
  • MicroSD card slot

Bad
  • Not very powerful
  • Screen isn't the greatest

Verdict
The Samsung Galaxy Mini 2 is a budget blower designed for a younger owner. It's light on features and not very powerful but as a cheap and cheerful first-time smart phone it's charmingly basic. There are more powerful and capable Androids at bargain basement prices so do your homework before committing your pocket money.

The interface is snappy, smooth and functional, while the physical keyboard differentiates the Samsung i5510 from the existing Froyo pack. If you prefer touchscreen only, have a look at the Galaxy 3, or, alternatively, if Android with a keyboard does it for you, the Motorola MILESTONE 2 hears your pain, but at a higher price. The rumored MSRP for the unlocked Samsung i5510 is the affordable 200 euros ($270), and it is ready to appear on Vodafone in a short while.

The good: The Samsung Galaxy Beam comes with an integrated pico projector, a dual-core processor, 720p video capture, and a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen.

The bad: The Galaxy Beam's projection software needs some work, the 5-megapixel camera sometimes blurs indoor shots, and the build is thicker and heavier than many of today's phones.

The bottom line: Despite weak software, the Samsung Galaxy Beam's bright projector pushes boundaries, and strong smartphone features make it a worthy standalone device.

Good
  • Dual-core chip
  • Takes good photos
  • MicroSD card slot

Bad
  • Android Gingerbread not Ice Cream Sandwich
  • Camera is slightly laggy
Verdict
For pay as you go budget buyers, the Galaxy Ace 2 is a great all-rounder, with a dual-core chip and an excellent camera. It's not so competitively priced SIM-free or on contract so its appeal is limited. Android enthusiasts may be disappointed to hear it runs on Gingerbread software, rather than the newer Ice Cream Sandwich.

The good: Sturdily built and appealing to the eyes, AT&T's Samsung DoubleTime has a refreshing design with two screens, a comfortable QWERTY keyboard, and a flip-open design. Call quality was good.

The bad: The DoubleTime's biggest problem is that it runs Android 2.2 Froyo instead of the more current Gingerbread. Its more petite touch screen and pink accent colors won't appeal to everyone, and the camera quality is middling. You can only access the microSD by removing the battery.

The bottom line: Those of you looking for a more unique, eye-catching design will appreciate the Samsung DoubleTime's petite hinging face with two screens and comfortable keyboard. However, the lower-end specs and outdated Android OS do the phone no favors.

The good: The Samsung Dart has a slim and compact design. It ships with Android 2.2, and the TouchWiz UI is easy to use. Features include GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, mobile hot-spot capabilities, and the ability to make calls over Wi-Fi. It's also very affordable.

The bad: The Samsung Dart's screen is on the small side, with a rather poor resolution.

The bottom line: The Samsung Dart is a decent entry-level phone for T-Mobile, but there are better options out there.

The good: The Samsung Captivate features a gorgeous Super AMOLED screen, a 1GHz processor, 16GB of onboard memory, and it has an expansion slot. The Android 2.1 device also offers great call quality, full wireless options, and a HD video capture.

The bad: AT&T won't let you sideload apps to the phone; camera lacks a flash.

The bottom line: The Samsung Captivate is easily AT&T's best Android phone to date. It delivers great performance, tons of features, and an easy-to-use interface.
